The Romantics - Violin Soloist: Gilda Ferrie

Gilda Ferrie, 18 years of age, began playing the violin at age 4 and currently studies with Fintan Murphy. At age 13, Gilda completed her AMEB Associate Diploma with Distinction, and a year later completed her AMEB Licentiate Diploma. In recent years, Gilda has been awarded over forty -five prizes in various competitions. Highlights include a 2014 solo performance at Carnegie Hall, New York, and an invitation to perform at Royal Albert Hall in London as a prize winner of The Grand Virtuoso Competition (2017).

 In 2018/19, Gilda was awarded the Chris & Ann Krans Youth Music Award through the Dandenong Ranges Music Council, won the Concerto Competition at The Ringwood Eisteddfod and received the Jesse Black Cultural Grant through the Distance Education Centre of Victoria. In 2019, after multiple performances live on radio 3MBS, Gilda won third prize in The Talent Competition. In 2020, she was one of eight violinists Australia wide selected to take part in The Australian Chamber Orchestra Academy in Sydney.

In 2021, Gilda was selected as a finalist in the Gisborne International Music Competition (New Zealand); she was also awarded the Instrumental Scholarship Solo Prize at The LaTrobe Valley Performing Arts Festival.

As a member of The Melbourne String Ensemble since 2014, mse.org.au, Gilda has toured Germany and The Czech Republic (2015); in addition to Switzerland, Austria & Germany (2018).
Earlier this year, Gilda travelled to the USA for a series of successful college auditions. Subsequently, she was offered The Dean’s Scholarship to the prestigious Oberlin Music Conservatory, The Nordan Scholarship to TCU and the Stamps Scholarship- one of the nation’s most coveted awards - at The Frost School of Music, University of Miami.
She was thrilled to accept her first choice as a Kenan Scholar studying Music and Economics at The University of North Carolina, She begins her studies at Chapel Hill in August, under the tutelage of Professor Nicolas Di Eugenio.
